Vitamin D
Vitamin D is crucial for calcium absorption, promoting bone and dental health, and also supports the immune system, brain, and nervous system health. Our primary source of Vitamin D is sunlight exposure, but it's also found in fish oils and fortified foods. The recommended intake varies based on sun exposure and dietary sources, but generally, 600-800 IU daily is advised. Deficiency can lead to rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults, while excess can cause toxicity, leading to hypercalcemia and other issues. It's especially important in regions with limited sunlight.
